Sustainability Commitment
“We recognise that every action we take, both individually and collectively, affects our environment, our shared future, and the futures of generations to come.”
At Identity, respect for the environment has been central to our values since our inception over two decades ago.
From our manufacturing processes and product designs to transportation methods and product life cycles, we strive to implement the most sustainable practices at every step.
To uphold this ethos, we have developed a set of Sustainability Commitments that reflect our undertaking to a sustainable future.
Our Commitments.
Thoughtful Design Practices
We understand the complexities of sustainability and are dedicated to crafting high-quality, durable, and efficient products. Our design team prioritises sustainability at every stage, focusing on material choice, product longevity, and end-of-life considerations. We use FSC-certified timber, recyclable steel, recycled plastics and are cable of stepping further with innovative materials like Agricultural Fibre Board (AFB) to surpass industry standards. These materials not only reduce environmental impact but also improve the sustainability credentials of our products.
Material Research
We prioritise using materials with renewable, recyclable, or recycled properties. For example, recycled plastics offer sustainable alternatives to traditional materials.
Innovative Design
We create products with efficient assembly and disassembly processes, enabling easier maintenance and reducing shipping footprints. Transparency is also key, and we provide comprehensive material breakdowns for all products within our Specification Documents to ensure accountability.
Responsible Manufacturing
Our manufacturing practices are designed to minimise environmental harm. Recognising our potential to impact the planet, we emphasise waste reduction, efficient processes, and collaboration with local suppliers.
Local Partnerships
Approximately 90% of our suppliers are British, with the majority located in the North of England, where our facility is based. This approach not only supports local businesses but also significantly reduces carbon emissions associated with long-distance transportation.
Waste Management
We employ advanced techniques like CAD nesting to reduce material waste and collaborate with suppliers to recycle by-products, such as reconstituted foam. Packaging is also optimised to reduce waste, using recycled and recyclable materials whenever possible.
Eco-Friendly Operations
Sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our operations, from adopting energy-efficient practices that help conserve resources and reduce our carbon footprint, to implementing responsible waste management strategies that focus on recycling, reusing materials, and minimising environmental harm. This comprehensive approach reflects our commitment to sustainability and ensures that we are playing our part in creating a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
Energy Efficiency
Our facilities implement energy-saving measures such as LED lighting, which significantly reduces electricity usage, alongside modern insulation and advanced heating technologies designed to minimise energy consumption. Together, these initiatives reflect our dedication to operating sustainably while maintaining energy efficiency at the core of our operations.
Low-Impact Transport
Our fleet has been carefully designed to include both hybrid and fully electric vehicles, reflecting our commitment to reducing emissions and minimising our environmental impact. By using these cleaner, more sustainable transport options, we are able to significantly lower the carbon footprint of our customer visits while contributing to improved air quality in the areas we serve. This initiative demonstrates our dedication to adopting greener technologies and supporting a more sustainable future.
Waste Disposal
We collaborate closely with trusted waste management partners to ensure that all materials are handled in a responsible and sustainable manner. Recyclable materials are processed efficiently, while any non-recyclable waste is repurposed to generate energy, reducing the amount sent to landfill. This approach reflects our commitment to minimising environmental impact and supporting a circular economy through innovative waste management solutions.
Sustainable Product Life Cycles
We believe furniture should never be treated as disposable. Through thoughtful design and planning, we aim to extend the lifespan of our products and minimise their environmental impact even after they leave our care.
Circular Design
Our products are thoughtfully designed with easy disassembly in mind, ensuring they can be conveniently repaired, upgraded, or recycled. This approach not only extends the lifespan of our products by making maintenance and updates more accessible but also promotes sustainability by simplifying the recycling process and reducing waste. By prioritising ease of disassembly, we aim to minimise environmental impact while offering practical and user-friendly solutions.
Optimisation
We employ advanced techniques like CAD nesting to reduce material waste and collaborate with suppliers to recycle by-products, such as reconstituted foam. Packaging is also optimised to reduce waste, using recycled and recyclable materials whenever possible.
